Dakota and Mom Melanie talk about How They Prepared for the Oscars 2015

Perhaps one of the most glam mommy-and-me dates of all time!

Dakota Johnson took her mom, Melanie Griffith, as her date to the 87th Annual Academy Awards in Hollywood on Sunday, Feb. 22, but the ladies didn't just spend the evening together—they prepped together, too!

The Fifty Shades of Grey actress, 25, confirmed to Us Weekly that while she and her mom did get ready together, she couldn't contain her excitement that morning. "I got up kind of early," she said. "I got ready at, like, 12:30 p.m.!"

Soon enough, Johnson had to slip her curves into her red-hot, form-fitting Saint Laurent dress (teamed with Forevermark diamonds), which may have been why the duo nixed a big noontime meal. "We had a nice salad for lunch," Griffith, 57, told Us.

While the Ben and Kate alum's dress fit her like a dream, she did confess that it was a bit of a last-minute choice. "We actually decided a week ago," Johnson told Us. "I wore a Saint Laurent dress recently, and the brand wanted me to wear Saint Laurent to the Oscars. So we started with that, and here I am at the Oscars wearing Saint Laurent!"

And Griffith's ensemble was no slouch either! The Working Girl actress flaunted her hourglass shape in a long-sleeved Roland Mouret dress, paired with emerald drop earrings and a sparkling clutch.

It sounded like a perfectly lovely afternoon—until, of course, ABC's Lara Spencer asked Griffith if she had seen Johnson's blockbuster BDSM film. "She's a really good actress. I don't need to see [Fifty Shades] to know how good she is," the proud mom said.

But clearly, this wasn't the first time Griffith had been asked to see her daughter's star turn. "Alright! You don't have to see it," Johnson soon snapped, before turning away from the cameras and adding, "Jesus Christ."

Cooling down a moment later, the young actress explained, "It's a movie. She knows that."
